Helping You Reach Your Potential with Psychological Evaluation and Testing
Early Kindergarten Assessment
Typically includes an aptitude (I.Q.) test and tests of early reading and early math skills.
Details
In Johnston County, Wake County, and surrounding counties, a child must be 5 years old on or before August 31 of the coming school year to begin kindergarten. If a child is 4 years old by April 16 of that year, the parent may choose to have the child evaluated for early kindergarten admission. An evaluation for early kindergarten admission includes administration and interpretation of an aptitude (I.Q.) test, a test of early reading ability, and a test of early math ability. If the child performs at or above the 98th percentile on the aptitude test AND on EITHER the early reading or early math test, an adaptive skill measure will be completed by the parent for inclusion in the written report. The evaluation takes approximately 2 hours and a written report with results will be provided. Please note that in addition to a psychological evaluation, there are other criteria that a child must meet to be admitted to kindergarten early, including letters of recommendation and work samples, among other things.
